Kremlin Says Ukraine Strikes on Refineries Are Tightening Global Oil Supply
Recent strikes have reportedly targeted the town of Tuapse in Russia’s Krasnodar Region, a key port area hosting an oil refinery and a nearby marine terminal. Regional authorities said the attacks triggered fires at multiple facilities, including a major blaze at the refinery, which led to evacuations and emergency response operations.
Officials also reported environmental consequences following the incidents, including elevated air pollution risks that prompted residents to use protective respirators. In addition, an oil spill reportedly caused damage along several kilometers of coastline in the nearby resort area, where cleanup efforts are ongoing. Authorities released footage showing heavy smoke covering parts of the town.
As stated by reports, Peskov told journalists on Tuesday that President Vladimir Putin had been briefed on the situation. “The Kiev regime has once again struck oil storage facilities, where the oil was intended for export operations, that is, for fulfilling export contract obligations,” he said.
He further argued that the strikes are intensifying pressure on global energy markets. Peskov said the attacks “further increase the oil deficit on global markets, which are already experiencing significant difficulties because of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, and provoking further destabilization on global energy markets.”
The statement also linked current volatility to broader geopolitical developments, including tensions affecting the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route for global oil transport. According to reports, disruptions in the region have already contributed to sharp increases in crude oil prices.
Earlier developments included reports of a US-Israeli conflict involving Iran that disrupted maritime flows through the Strait of Hormuz, which carries a significant share of global oil shipments and contributed to Brent crude prices rising above $100 per barrel. In response to tightening supply conditions, the US administration reportedly introduced a sanctions waiver on Russian oil already in transit to help stabilize markets.
