Pakistan Denounces Israeli Settlers over Al-Aqsa Mosque Compound Incident

(MENAFN) Pakistan on Tuesday strongly condemned what it described as Israeli settlers entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and raising the Israeli flag, calling the incident a serious violation of international law and the sanctity of the religious site.

A Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the actions amounted to a breach of the site’s protected status and warned that such developments risk further heightening tensions across the region.

The statement urged the international community to take measures to safeguard holy places in areas under Israeli control and to address what it described as impunity for illegal settler activity.

Pakistan also reiterated its political stance in support of Palestinians, expressing solidarity and reaffirming backing for what it called their right to worship freely and to establish an independent state based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The incident occurred as individuals entered the compound in occupied East Jerusalem and raised the Israeli flag during what was described as an escalation in the wider situation in the West Bank.

The site is sacred in Islam as the third-holiest mosque, while it is also known in Judaism as the Temple Mount, where ancient temples are believed to have once stood.
