Democrats Say Biden’s Gaza Stance Hurts Harris’ Campaign

(MENAFN) Senior Democratic officials examining the party’s loss in the 2024 presidential election concluded that the Biden administration’s approach to Gaza acted as a "net-negative” for former Vice President Kamala Harris, as stated by reports.

Harris, who was defeated by Donald Trump, attempted during her campaign to balance strong support for Israel with calls for a ceasefire and concern for Palestinian civilians in Gaza, as well as hostages held by Hamas.

Reports indicate that officials involved in the post-election review determined that the administration’s backing of Israel negatively influenced the party’s appeal among certain voter groups, particularly younger voters and progressives.

As part of the assessment, Democratic National Committee (DNC) aides held a private meeting with activists from a pro-Palestinian advocacy group. Representatives from the organization said DNC officials acknowledged that internal data identified the administration’s Gaza stance as a “net-negative” factor in the election.

The advocacy group has accused the DNC of withholding the report partly due to its findings on Israel, though a DNC spokesperson denied this allegation. Party officials had previously stated that the audit would remain confidential, citing concerns that public release could jeopardize efforts to win upcoming elections.

Reports also confirmed that officials conducting the review believed the issue contributed to the party’s weaker electoral performance.

In response, a Harris aide referred to her recent remarks during a tour for her memoir 107 Days, in which she said the administration “should have done more” and “should have spoken publicly” in criticizing how Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu conducted the war.
