Trump Opposes Israel’s Annexation of West Bank
During an interview, he was asked about recent decisions by Israel’s security cabinet regarding the territory. While avoiding specific details, Trump said: “I am against annexation.”
“We have enough things to think about now. We don’t need to be dealing with the West Bank,” he added.
The Israeli security cabinet on Sunday approved measures that included repealing a law preventing the sale of Palestinian land to Jewish citizens, unsealing land ownership records, and transferring authority over building permits in a Hebron settlement bloc from the Palestinian municipality to Israel’s civil administration.
The steps also increase Israeli oversight in areas classified as Area A and Area B, citing alleged violations related to unlicensed construction, water management, and damage to archaeological and environmental sites.
Over the past three years, Israel has reportedly reviewed plans for roughly 50,000 new settlement units in the West Bank, alongside confiscating about 60,000 dunams (14,826 acres) of land since the outbreak of the conflict with Hamas in October 2023.
In July 2024, the International Court of Justice issued a landmark ruling declaring Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and calling for the removal of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
