Turkish BIST 100 Index Closes Monday Lower
Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index closed at 13,620.95 points, marking a sharp 1.57% decline that erased 217.34 points from the previous session's finish. The index launched Monday's session at 13,598.39 points before experiencing dramatic intraday swings.
Trading saw the benchmark plummet to a session low of 13,393.80 points before recovering to touch a peak of 13,873.91 points during volatile Monday activity.
The selloff left BIST 100's total market capitalization standing at approximately 13.49 trillion Turkish liras—equivalent to $311.19 billion—while daily trading volumes reached 236.8 billion liras ($5.44 billion).
Market breadth heavily favored decliners, with 72 constituent stocks posting losses against just 25 gainers compared to Friday's closing levels.
In commodities markets as of 6:20 pm local time (1520GMT), gold traded at $4,710.55 per ounce while Brent crude oil was priced at $66.30 per barrel.
Currency markets showed the US dollar exchanging at 43.4840 Turkish liras, while the euro stood at 51.3660 liras and the British pound traded for 59.3565 liras.
