Turkish Authorities Arrest Six People Accused of Spying for Iran
As stated by reports, the arrests followed a coordinated security sweep carried out simultaneously in five provinces, under the supervision of prosecutors in Istanbul and with the involvement of counterterrorism police units and national intelligence authorities.
Investigators concluded that the suspects maintained direct communication with intelligence operatives linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, based on information contained in the investigation file.
Authorities allege that the group gathered classified and strategically sensitive data related to Turkish defense infrastructure. This reportedly included surveillance of military facilities such as the Incirlik Air Base in the southern province of Adana, along with other critical locations inside Türkiye and in foreign countries. The suspects are also accused of facilitating operations through logistical assistance.
According to officials, the activities attributed to the group ranged from reconnaissance missions around Incirlik to involvement in the illicit transfer of unmanned aerial vehicles through Turkish territory, allegedly intended for operations targeting third countries.
Investigators say the intelligence collected was relayed directly to IRGC-linked contacts.
Security forces carried out synchronized raids in Istanbul, Van, Samsun, Yalova, and Ankara, resulting in the apprehension of all six suspects.
Following initial processing at local security departments, the individuals were brought before judicial authorities and formally jailed pending trial on charges related to political and military espionage, according to official statements.
