Syrian military arrests individuals tied to ex-Baath regime in Aleppo
The arrests took place near Deir Hafir in Aleppo governorate, according to a statement from the Syrian Defense Ministry’s Media and Communications Directorate, reported by the state-run SANA news agency.
Since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, Syria’s new administration has launched economic and political reforms aimed at improving conditions nationwide. Assad, who ruled for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia after his ouster, ending the Baath Party’s rule that had lasted since 1963.
A transitional government led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa was established in January 2025.
